Berlin and Potsdam 2004

When I still lived in Freiburg, Berlin was very far away. Having seen several other capitals, I thought I would be a good idea to visit Berlin and Potsdam. In general, this is a nice idea. Picturewise, however, end of November is not the best time.

Probably, one of the most famous buildings in Germany, the Brandenburger Tor is situated closely at the former border between East and West Berlin.

Karlsruhe, a city of Baden-Württemberg, competed for European Cultural Capital in 2010. Their campaign follows the layout of a general campaign for Baden-Württemberg. Thanks to local patriotism I felt obliged to take a picture.

When I went to Sanssouci Castle, there was heavy fog which blurred most of the motives. So I selected the ones, which can be discerned easily. Here you see the China House, which was built in a phase where European kings admired China as being exotic. A similar building can also be found in Stockholm.

At least there needed to be also a Chinese on the wall. In this case he is gilded.

As one Chinese house was not enough, they built also this one with dragons at the rims of the roof.
