Ireland Summer 2004

Having enjoyed the hiking trip to Cyprus in Spring 2004, I decided to do another one in Ireland. I went to the North-Western part called Connemara.

Unfortunately we did not stay in Ashford Castle, the former residence of the Guinness family, which has been turned into a hotel. Or shall I say fortunately? The prices start at about 300 Euro per night.

The trip lead us alongside Killary Harbour, the only firth in Ireland with a length of 14km.

This os an overview of Killary Harbour after its first bend. The clouds came from thurnderstorms which were on the other side of Killary Harbour. We were fortunately only once hit by a rainy patch.

A picture of me on the so-called home mountain close to an old farm owned by the travel organisers.

View form the top of the Home Mountain to the opposite mountain range and Lough Corrib, the largest lake of Ireland to the right.

The most romantic sight of the whole trip - an oldtimer in front of the Burke's pub in Clonbur.

A grey heron which I have seen in Galway.
